Jimoto-Ya (Singapore)

Image
Sometimes, i wished there isn't so many new restaurants sprouting around our tiny island everyday (pocket is bleeding), but at times, i am exhilarated especially when something like Jimoto-Ya is in town! Thanks to one of Jimoto-Ya's sake supplier who strongly recommended the place, that i had to try it right away. And in a week, there goes 2 meals at Jimoto-Ya. I was there on a weekday afternoon and a weekend night respectively. Both experience were unique on its own yet similar in the right points.  From top: Ebi Shoyu Ramen Set (19 SGD), Curry Rice Set (19 SGD), Ebi Shio Ramen Set (19 SGD) Lunch and dinner menu are the same at the moment with ramen and rice sets taking the limelight. For lunch, i shared the above 3 sets with my 2 girlfriends who were as delighted as me to eat them the second the food was served. The smell of amaebi boiled for hours alleviating from the soup made it even more irresistible. The choices were decided with the help of the boss, Se

Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant

Image
If you think the craze about tendon or flying udon were the recent big players in the Japanese food scene in Singapore, this post is meant for you. Read on.  Located in the hearts of Chinatown makes Man Man Unagi Restaurant an easy reach for the working crowd. I have heard rumours that lunch time queue can be as long as an hour's wait. So either you reach at 11am before it opens or you will need to have an extended lunch to get your hands on these charcoal-grilled freshwater eels.  I arrived at 9.30pm and the restaurant was about 75% full, still a sizeable crowd considering it was just Monday!    Take a look at Mr Rudolph spreading those charcoals to make sure it's got the best heat to cook those skewered Unagi. Honestly, I pity him for having to wear them throughout the day and standing by the charcoal pit. Yet he looked so calm in it as if he's been doing it for years! Applause to Teppei Yamashita's success in creating the X'mas mood.    Those Unagi being barbecue

Tendon Kohaku's 2nd outlet!

Image
Ever since I chanced upon Tendon Hokaku (even though I've read so much about it before that plus all the instagram spams on my wall) at its 1st outlet at Suntec, been missing it. Just that the queue can be quite a pain especially during the peak hours. So there's also peak periods for dining nowadays!  It's opening at Circular Road last week has caused such a hype especially amongst the working crowd in the area. CBD IS HAPPENING TOO!    Quickly, the queue has formed with longer queue times as the days go by. I went on a Wednesday at 1pm and the waiting time was 15 mins, better than I expected. Then on Thursday, it became 40 mins. I'm not sure how long it'll be in the days to come. But if you all agree with me, the perpetual queue is a good sign too!    The cosy outlet has about 6-7 tables and some counter seats so I reckon it can hold up to 20 pax at each time. Menu is a standard 4 types: Seafood, chicken and mixed vegetables tendon (spicy or non-spicy) at $15 whil

The Usual Place

Image
Neighbourhood cafes sprawling all over Singapore are giving people a hard time deciding where to even start. For me, i am contented that i can take a 5-10 mins stroll down the streets of Jurong East Street 31 to get to nearest cafe - The Usual Place .  This cafe stands out from the crowd in the midst of the wet market, coffee shops and supermarkets. I have to say, it can be easily missed given its humble-looking exterior, if not for my Google Maps leading me there. The food, in the likes of the prices, are really delicious. We had four dishes accompanied with their lemon ginger mint tea and coffee.. 1. Salted Egg Prawn Pasta (SGD 12.90) It was not a difficult decision o make. I knew i wanted to have it the moment i see it on the menu, hence it was the first confirmed order. To my delight, it turns out to be a wise choice. The fat prawns are succulent and crunchy, drowned in the creamy salted egg sauce. 2. 1/2 Usual Wings The fried wings caught me off gua

Cake Spade Has Moved!

Image
I've been a fan of Cake Spade's desserts for the longest time. It's my promise to visit the shop whenever I'm at Tanjong Pagar except on Sundays when it's closed.  It used to be located at Orchid Hotel beside Two Blur Boys (burger joint) and where several ramen bars reside. That used-to-be spot was tiny and could only accommodate two couples outside the shop. But the variety of desserts on the menu greatly exceeds what you see from the outside. The shelf displays their famous cakes, brownies and cupcakes but what's going on inside the kitchen is something you have to dine in to find out. My dream finally came true because it's decided to move into a bigger unit not too far away from the old unit. Just walk past the boutiques of wedding gowns and you will be on your way to any girl's dream dessert shop.  I found myself having to wait for a table despite them having expanded almost five times! But I was happy to wait :)  After getting a table, it's tim

House Dempsey

Image
I never liked to eat at Dempsey if neither my friends nor I intends to drive there. But I guess Dempsey House's reviews made me changed my mind.  Nearest train station would be Orchard Road and you will need to take a bus for sure. Assuming you made it there without much of a problem, there's a long walk uphill to where Dempsey House is located. Yes, one of the furthest eatery here in the heart of Dempsey. They have a couple of menus to look at so do pick your dishes wisely. I was staring at the House Hi-Tea which is only available from 3-5.30pm on Thurs and Fri (I KNOW RIGHT!! How can they do that to me! Sobs) At just $30++/pax where you can savour on curry leave brownie! How awesome is that! Definitely going for that the next time I happen to be on leave on a weekday.  Not wi thstanding that,  we had the most creative fries ever. But that is coz there is no other place with Pumpkin Fries with Hazelnut, Paprika and Chilli Powder . My expectations was higher than that for this

SPRMKT

Image
Cafes are a plenty along Telok Ayer but SPRMKT is some place not to be missed. It's clean-looking interior makes one feel welcoming and yearning to linger longer in this cafe after your meal.  I was at SPRMKT to celebrate my first year of pole-ing with my first pole friend S. We have so much in common it is quite unbelievable, just that she eats lesser than me and is more hardworking than me when it comes to pole. I'm proud of her achievements ๐Ÿ˜Š My order of the weekend brunch item - Salmon and Eggs ($16) was not fantastic but neither was it bad. I would have expected more given that the cafe has been one of the longer lasting ones around. Generally, they are short lived. The salmon seems as if it was defrosted frozen salmon. Not much effort there. Whilst the eggs could be more runny. Oh and that's crumpets on the side. Have not actually tried one before. Now I know, it's just muffin's cousin. Second stomach called for dessert so I had to indulge in one. Plus, the s
