House Dempsey

Image
I never liked to eat at Dempsey if neither my friends nor I intends to drive there. But I guess Dempsey House's reviews made me changed my mind.  Nearest train station would be Orchard Road and you will need to take a bus for sure. Assuming you made it there without much of a problem, there's a long walk uphill to where Dempsey House is located. Yes, one of the furthest eatery here in the heart of Dempsey. They have a couple of menus to look at so do pick your dishes wisely. I was staring at the House Hi-Tea which is only available from 3-5.30pm on Thurs and Fri (I KNOW RIGHT!! How can they do that to me! Sobs) At just $30++/pax where you can savour on curry leave brownie! How awesome is that! Definitely going for that the next time I happen to be on leave on a weekday.  Not wi thstanding that,  we had the most creative fries ever. But that is coz there is no other place with Pumpkin Fries with Hazelnut, Paprika and Chilli Powder . My expectations was higher than that for...

SPRMKT

Image
Cafes are a plenty along Telok Ayer but SPRMKT is some place not to be missed. It's clean-looking interior makes one feel welcoming and yearning to linger longer in this cafe after your meal.  I was at SPRMKT to celebrate my first year of pole-ing with my first pole friend S. We have so much in common it is quite unbelievable, just that she eats lesser than me and is more hardworking than me when it comes to pole. I'm proud of her achievements 😊 My order of the weekend brunch item - Salmon and Eggs ($16) was not fantastic but neither was it bad. I would have expected more given that the cafe has been one of the longer lasting ones around. Generally, they are short lived. The salmon seems as if it was defrosted frozen salmon. Not much effort there. Whilst the eggs could be more runny. Oh and that's crumpets on the side. Have not actually tried one before. Now I know, it's just muffin's cousin. Second stomach called for dessert so I had to indulge in one. Plus, the s...

Boruto Singapore

Image
I've heard and read so much about Boruto that I know I will regret if I don't try it. Hustled in the midst of CBD, one could still miss the place if you do not open your eyes wide enough.  The humbled exterior exudes a cool, mysterious looking diner but once you enter, the warm and dimly lit interior will make one feel comfortable to sit there sipping ice water through the night (exactly what I did). Vaults of rare whiskies n sake lined the walls, be careful not to touch them as one can set you back as much as $3.7k.  We sat upstairs where there are about 5 bar top tables and a groovy ambience. The night was young so we decided to start off with food. Certain selections from their menu cost $10 every Saturday. We were really lucky! Their food are served tapas style and artistically displayed. It was a difficult choice to make. But we managed to shortlist 5 dishes (aside from desserts) to start off.  Potato Mentai Cheese ($9.80) which was essentially potato cut into spher...

Where Is My Icecream??

Image
I wondered how I wondered why the coconut ice cream outlet is called WIMI. Just what does that stands for? Is it the bosses' names?  I managed to get a chance to have a chat with the boss' sister on the name and it is just smart! W is Where I is Is M is My and I is Icecream. A cute and catchy name for the chain.  Opening for the second outlet for relatives and friends is this weekend at their pre-opening launch and I went cocoNUTS. The first outlet was at clementi which I have yet to try and I know I have to give it a shot since it must have done well at its flagship outlet. First, choose your ice cream. They have coconut, coconut (strong), and milk tea. I've always loved my coconut in my desserts so I wanted to go for strong but was suggested to try both which I did.  Toppings are as follows:   You can choose up to three toppings for to go into your ice cream. I love the fact that they've all the toppings one can possibly think of so you will never have a problem if...

Hakata Ikkousha Ramen

Image
The best is yet to be.. There are so many ramen places opening up each month and one gets better than the other. It is hard to catch up with this craze man.  And so I decided to start with the household brands first. These restaurateurs have been around for the longest time.  Here's a shot for two. Pretty good deal right? There's spicy one which is the renowned GodFire and the other is the Tonkotsu Black which is flavoured with plenty of garlic. For the sides that comes with the set, we had a gyoza and karaage for sharing.  The rich soup stock together with the springy and chewy noodles were to die for. We decided to choose the normal soup flavour and noodle texture so that we get to try the origanality of the ramen before we decide to go light or heavier the next time round. We added extra toppings for the Tonkotsu Black which came with three huge slices of pork and and an ajitama egg which came was not runny enough. The spring onions topping the soup gave it some health...

Experiment at The Lab

Image
Finding something healthy yet tasty isn't quite an easy task. But since I had a special request from a friend, I decided to be a little adventurous and explored the streets of Haji Lane for one place which qualifies this.  The Lab SG is open by a humbled Muslim family and situated in Jalan Pisang. Right in the midst of many reputable cafes like Artistry and Symmetry, you might easily give this gem a miss.  The name of the cafe speaks for itself. Expect what you would see in a laboratory- cylinders and jars. But of course, these containers are filled with food and not chemicals.  Pressed fruit juices are one of the specialties at The Lab. At 5 bucks, you can choose three different ingredients to go into your mixed juice. I got the ginger, carrot and beetroot which turned out refreshing and slightly spicy and sweet at the same time.  As for the food, be prepared to spoil yourself with the array of selections, from burgers to pastas to interesting starters,  We onl...

Tuan Yuan - The New Bak Kut Teh In The House

Image
Welcoming the new player in the bak kut teh heat is 团缘 or Tuan Yuan.  Located right in the midst of the peaceful yet centralized neighbourhood in Tiong Bahru, Tuan Yuan caters to both the residents as well as the adventurous foodies. So how did the name 团缘 came about? We hear from the boss of the restaurant that it actually has several meanings behind it. One of which would be that he wish to bring families together to enjoy a sumptuous meal, whereas the other is because its current location is where the family used to stay many years back. This brings back fond memories of my childhood as well, since I grew up in Kim Tian Road.  I can sense your eagerness to read on hence, enough of the history and let's get down to the main reason why you're reading this. The Food Critic!  The parents of the boss is actually the founders of Outram Park Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha at PSA Tanjong Pagar (7 Keppel Road). Remember those times where I'd just have to walk across my office for some hot p...
