People's Park Complex hidden treasures

Image
I know it can be frustrating if you can't make up your mind between the three roasted meat stalls and four other dim sum stalls. They all look the same but you know surely one of those stalls is the famous one which your grandparents and parents grew up eating.  Today, I'd introduce to you one of the best dimsum and roast meats non-restaurant style, together with some new findings in the current People's Park Complex.  It has been a long while since I last wowed at the dimsum before me. The stall only displays a pathetic number of dishes in the glass cabinet as compared to Ho Kee which display a wide myriad of choices. Yet... 道记(Chop Hean Kuan) 's dimsums sells like hot cakes. The price range is not large, cheapest at 90c for items like the ugly looking yet tempting siew mai, egg tarts and 韭菜角, the most expensive item is 2 bucks for the 糯米鸡. The mini char siew bao was heaven. I seldom fancy this because it feels  often feels like eating marinated card board. ...

Sumiya Charcoal Grill Izakaya

Image
It's a weekday evening and everywhere is crowded, you are spoilt for food choices at Orchard Central and you're craving for Jap cuisine. Can't decide where to eat? Choose Sumiya! I never knew there was a 12th floor at OC until last Thursday. To go to level 12, you need to take the lift to the 11th floor and take one floor up by the escalator. The scenic view and strong breeze outside the restaurant looks perfect for couples who wants a quiet place or for friends to mingle for hours without being chased. I made up my mind to eat at Sumiya instead of Ootoya or Tonkatsu. The menu in a scroll looks too interesting to resist. Their grilled items seemed to be their specialty as there were several different types ranging from the skewered ones to dried seafood (DIY). Some if not all dishes has a note at the side telling you what drinks goes well with the food item. We sat near the glass wall so that we can have a clear view of the haze -.- We decided to order one or two from...

East Ocean Teochew Restaurant - The Unexpected

Image
You might be wondering where why the title i gave to my blog post. We had wanted to go to East Ocean Teochew Restaurant for dinner as we used to patronize for their sumptuous spread of cutely decorated dimsums. Many of you who have also been there will remember the perpetually packed restaurant with busy waiters buzzing around above a flight of stairs from the Isetan office basement. Front Desk @ East Ocean Teochew Restaurant With such advanced in technology, we found out from Google that the restaurant has shifted to Takashimaya Level 5 where the cluster of restaurants are situated at. The brightly lit and classy restaurant is located beside Seoul Garden ( where Breekz used to be situated). I was bewildered by the spacial design of the restaurant as it was quite a great leap from the old venue. We were sat down by a friendly waitress followed by 4 cups of super thick and red tea known to cleanse your tummy so i guess it was for us to feel hungrier and thus prepare ourselves t...

Verdict of the....Two Blur Guys

Image
It isn't too hard to find Two Blur Guys as it is surrounded by Japanese restaurants at Level 1 of Orchid Hotel, so unfortunately or fortunately, it stood out. Largely westerners or stranded lunch crowd who has no other places to go will be attracted to this little cafe. Went during lunch time with a friend who just got back from Aussie for the new year. It was totally empty at first but soon after we ordered our food, streams of crowd started entering the tiny restaurant, perhaps coz everywhere else was full. Their menu is really limited in choices but there is definitely something for everyone and i really mean for everyone. Whether you are a vegan or a non-beef eater ( like me), you can have your burger and eat it too! I got the Pulled Pork Burger which the waitress who took our orders recommended, while RJ got the Prime Beef Burger. Beef burgers never goes wrong it seems, all my beef-lover friends seldom ever complained that their beef dish taste horrible. Is it because ...

Situated at Upper Thomson Estate are some good food which you wouldn't want to miss.  1. The Coastal Settlement

Image
Brunch places are getting so common these days. So what does The Coastal Settlement has to offer that is worth visiting? Located 200, Netheravon Road, it is not easily accessible without a car. Luckily we have J to give us a ride there on a warm Saturday afternoon. Parking is valet and limited so i guess we were pretty lucky that day. We were ushered into the restaurant cum cafe by the friendly waiters and waitresses at TCS. I especially like the location of the cafe which is surrounded by greenery and a romantic garden/playground at the backyard. The interior dining area is dimly lit with vintage furniture, giving off a nostalgic atmosphere. We sat at a table which was just nice for the 5 of us, leaving sufficient space for us to move our arms as we tucked into the wide spread of food we ordered for ourselves. First up - the truffle fries was light and remained crispy throughout our meal. I like the fact that it was not too salty and greasy despite the robust truffle taste it h...

Go Green, Eat GreenDot

Image
If you feel that vegetarian food is bland, boring and feels like just eating flour, GreenDot  is here to prove you wrong. Started by co-founders, Fu Yong Hong and Justin Chou, this start up began from a flagship stall in Temasek Polytechnic's Design School and went on to expand to Tanjong Katong Girls' School and finally, a more public appearance at Bedok Mall last November. Want to know what these pair of inspiring brothers has to offer?  Hello handsome GreenDot co-founder and my friends (: I used to work at their flagship stall at TP. I love all the food they serve and even takeaway leftovers home sometimes! The first time i ate GreenDot's food was the bento sets ( see 2nd pic) at my NUS camp and they only do delivery and catering back then. I fell in love with it. And since i do not want to waste food, i had 7 packets of it! ( without the rice of course ) but still a lot right! Huge fan as you can tell by now. Okay enough of stories, let's move on to the food!...
